Endocrine & Metabolic Diseases

Endocrine and metabolic disorders affect hormones, blood sugar, thyroid function, lipid metabolism, reproductive health, and other essential body processes. Laboratory testing plays an important role in screening, diagnosis, monitoring, risk assessment, and treatment follow-up.

At National Path Lab (NPL), a range of biochemical, hormonal, metabolic, and specialized laboratory investigations can help clinicians evaluate endocrine and metabolic conditions.

Why Are Multiple Tests Sometimes Needed?

Endocrine and metabolic conditions often overlap — for example, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and hyperlipidemia share several risk factors and interconnected biological pathways. A combination of tests is therefore often more informative than any single value in isolation.

Your doctor may select the appropriate combination based on your symptoms, medical history, medications, previous reports, and suspected diagnosis. Laboratory tests should be interpreted together with clinical history and examination.

Do Endocrine & Metabolic Tests Require Fasting?

Preparation requirements vary considerably by test within this department. HbA1c generally does not require fasting, while fasting plasma glucose and OGTT require an overnight fast. Lipid profile fasting requirements depend on the clinical purpose and your doctor's specific instructions. TSH, Free T4, and most hormonal tests generally do not require fasting. Always follow the specific preparation instructions provided by your doctor or NPL for your particular test.
